Alternative to diesel
I typically drive around 30000 miles per year. To date I've run a series of diesel Golfs and now A3, usually to around 90k to 100k miles without any major issues. With the current diesel scandal I may have to consider changing to a petrol car as the death of diesel is in sight. What can you recommend of a similar size which will be economic as possible and reliable over the high mileage I cover?

For this sort of mileage at high speeds diesel still makes sense. If most of the mileage was done in cities, then a hybrid or plug-in hybrid would be better. Toyota Prius have proven to be so outstandingly reliable and cheap to run and maintain over high mileages that a huge number of private hire taxi drivers have switched over to them.
