Reject or repair?

I recently purchased a 2006 Jaguar XK from an independent dealer. One of the front sensors was faulty which the dealer agreed to repair via an approved Jaguar dealership who subsequently discovered extensive and poorly executed bodywork repairs to the lower doors and rear quarters (which were only apparent once on the service ramp). While not wanting to reject the car outright, I have offered the independent dealer the opportunity to repair the bodywork which he is currently refusing to do. Having spoken to the previous owner, he mentioned a rear-end collision which was processed as a no fault claim. The independent dealer claims no knowledge of this. What are my options at this stage?

You can reject the car. The independent dealer cannot pretend not to have known of the damage because he is a professional and his own 'due diligence' should have shown him that. He therefore contravened the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights
