Why have the suspension air bags on our Mercedes-Benz E-Class blown out for a second time?

What causes rear suspension air bags to explode? One blew out on our 2006 E-Class Mercedes-Benz before we replaced both rear shocks, and 12 months later it has happened again.

The most likely cause of this is the failure of the relay valve (it sticks open) which allows the pump to continue on, resulting in the failure of the shocks. I would suggest that this is checked out asap.
