Need a robust car for £8k - any recommendations?

I want to buy my wife a car. It must be robust (we live on a farm), comfortable and suitable to carry two dogs in the back. What do you suggest for £8000?

For dogs and farm tracks you might as well go cheap with raised suspension. Get a Dacia Sandero Stepway 90TCe. £8,395 new: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/dacia/sandero-stepwa.../

I am looking for a small hatchback with high ground clearance and room for the dog in the boot. Long-term reliability is very important and it must be economical to run and cheap to repair.
I'm thinking of buying a new Sandero Stepway; however, I've been told that Dacias suffer with rust problems. Is this true?
