Local garage has broken our clutch - what should we do?
We are the second owners of 2001 Toyta Yaris 1.3 with 120k on the clock. The clutch started to go at end of last year and it was replaced by a local garage. Following that we started to notice that the car sometimes wouldn't go into gear. We also noticed the bite point was very low.
We went back to the garage and a technician inspected the car for a few minutes. He found no problem. We were told it was a gearbox problem. I accepted the diagnosis on trust. I enquired about a gearbox repair from a local garage who used to be a Toyota dealer. They said that Yaris gearbox failure (even at 120,000 miles) was almost unheard of and suggested it could be a dragging clutch.
The clutch is still under warranty so I contacted the garage again and booked the car in. However, the receptionist said clutch drag was something she'd not heard of and although they would strip the clutch down if the fault was the gearbox I would be charged. Have you heard of Clutch drag, what would you do?

You have no choice other than to let them investigate. But you can be there and watch. Probably a failing clutch slave cylinder that was not replaced with the clutch, or even a faulty replacement clutch slave cylinder.
