Buying a used car: Passat or Mondeo?

I would like to ask your opinion about the Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo. I want to buy a used car with a manual gearbox and petrol engine. I've seen a Passat 1.4 and a Mondeo 1.8 that I quite like. Which one would be most reliable and economical?

Used, the Ford will probably be the most reliable. Fords are generally far more reliable then VAG cars. New, you can't yet get a Passat 1.4/1.5TSI 125/150. But you can get a Skoda Superb 1.4TSI 150 and that is an excellent car that will pull 130mph in 4th,with two more gears to go.

I am thinking of getting a nearly new Peugeot 2008 (up to a year old). However, I'm not sure which petrol version to get. I have seen two engines (VTI and Puretech) - could you advise of the difference?
