First car options for under £3000?

I'm looking to buy my first (used) car. I have £3000 to spend. I'm looking for something fairly economical to drive on winding country roads and very occasionally down the motorway and into the city. I've looked at the Toyota Yaris 1.3 petrol (2007 seems to come up a lot), Aygos and Ford Fiestas/Focus, but I'm losing the plot trying to make a choice. Can you help?

Stick to a Yaris 1.3, early 2nd generation, avoid an MMT auto, and you should not go far wrong: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-yari.../
