Why did my insurance premium increase by 15 per cent when I moved 400 yards to another property?
I have my Volkswagen Jetta insured through a major insurance company. As a man in his mid-50s the premium was only around £290. When I notified the company that I was moving from my rented flat where the car was kept out on road to another house 400 yards away, where the car would be kept on driveway, they asked for additional premium of £77. When challenged, they said it was due to me being nearer the two A-roads that serve Guildford. Both are still at least half a mile away.
They have since offered me a £30 gift voucher but I still can't believe they have charged this - an admin fee, fair enough but not a 15 per cent surcharge. I could not cancel the policy as I had been persuaded to take out roadside cover and that would be lost if the policy ended. Have you come across this?

Changes in postal area can mean a change in premium, due to different claims stats for the different area.
