Buying a personal registration - can I keep the existing reg?
I wish to buy a new personalised Registration Number from the DVLA for my existing 13 year old car, and also keep the existing Registration Number. This so that I can revert back to the previous Reg Number when I exchange the car for a newer model and use the personalised Number on my newer model. How do I go about this?

You can't. If you transfer the car to a cherished registration you relinquish the use of the original date-related plate that might be re-issued to someone else. If you transfer back to a date-related plate there is no guarantee that you will get your old one back.
