Why is my car showing as an insurance write off?

I am looking to part exchange my car, but am being told it is showing as a write off on the insurance database. The car was stolen 10 months after purchase in Oct 2005 and recovered after about six weeks. The damage was minor, with a flat tyre and some scuffs to the leather seats.

The car was repaired by the insurance company at the time and I thought nothing more of it. How do I get the car removed from being a write off? I cant remember who the insurer was at the time of the theft.

I would guess that the insurer was preparing to write it off as a Class D before it was recovered, then forgot to take it off the register when it was recovered and repaired. So you need to get your insurer to undo its mistake with the threat of legal action for the damages it has caused to you by libelling your car as a write off. The insurer can't have it both ways. Either it pays you the write off value of the car and takes the car off your hands, or it compensates you for your loss as a result of its negligence.
