Can I reject my faulty new car after 2 weeks?
We bought a brand new 66-plate Tiguan from our local Volkswagen dealership two weeks ago. We have now got three problems with the car which showed up at the same time. We are booked for them to have a look at it and if the problems present themselves I am planning to instruct them not to do anything as we want to reject the car instead.
The problems are:
- Wing mirrors have started making a crunching sound when they open.
- There is a motor sound in the dash that keeps going round and round as if trying to adjust something.
- The front air blower doesn't work when the air con is switched on.
- An air bag warning light has come on.
Question one: I0f the problems do not present themselves but when they put it on test and it comes up with a fault code, can I still reject the car on this fault code showing alone?
Question two: If we do reject the car, do we get the full amount including the amount that we part exchanged the old car back, or would the refund be minus this?

In theory the Consumer Rights Act gives you 28 days to reject the car for the faults you describe: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ You basically get back what you paid plus the allowance given for your part-exchange on the invoice. If the dealer still has your part-exchange then you can, if you wish, have your old car back, but it will then be up to you to tax it.
