Volvo XC60 New Model?

We are looking at buying a new Volvo XC60 for the comfortable higher ride, and the amount of space, which seems to be available with some good discounts at the moment!
Question is would it be better to wait for the new model which appears to come out sometime next year, presumably with development advantages, or buy the current model at a good price now?
Secondly, we are just retired and do a mix of driving about 10-12k miles a year. Is diesel the best choice or should we stick with petrol?
We intend to keep this car for several years, so any alternatives would be gratefully received. Current car is a petrol Vitara 2015, which is ok, but simply not big enough!
Enjoy your column and site,
Many thanks, Alan

It will have the same Volvo engine range: all 2.0 litre petrol or diesel with varying power outputs. Our experience of Volvos is that the more technically sophisticated they become the more irritating they become and the more goes wrong. On a brand new XC90 T8 not all of the extensive kit worked properly.
