Why is the fuel distance calculation incorrect?
I have a new 2016 diesel Audi A3. I have a couple of questions.
1. After I open the filling cap there is another door which needs to be pushed very hard using the nozzle of the pump to start putting in fuel. My guess is this shouldn't be something very hard or shouldn't require this much pressure. Am I missing something here?
2. I recently put in the premium diesel from BP, since then I have noticed that even if I'm travelling just 1 or 2 miles, on the dashboard where it shows how many miles I would go more with the remaining fuel it keeps dropping by 5 (seems to be proportionate with the speed). This doesn't seem correct. I checked and it doesn't look like fuel leaks.

The flap is an anti-misfuel device to prevent you from filling with a narrower petrol pump nozzle, only the wider nozzle of the diesel pump will open the trap door. The fuel distance calculation cannot be accurate until you have driven 5-10 miles and the engine is to full working temperature. If you start from cold on overfuel it will show you how far you can go on the cold running overfuel.
