I only do 8000 miles a year and want a 4x4 - should I go for a diesel?
I need a 4x4 with a high seating position but only cover about 8000 miles a year. I have been offered a good deal on a BMW X1 20d. Do BMWs have the same DPF probs as others as I intend keeping it for three to four years. Has BMW got over its reliability problems?

If you want to do repeat short runs from cold starts do not buy a diesel with a DPF and particularly not a BMW Efficient Dynamics diesel. You need a petrol or a petrol hybrid. If your runs will always be 15 miles or more you should be relatively okay with a BMW diesel with a DPF and the ED which works on overrun should charge the battery sufficiently.
