What is your advice for a timing chain that broke just after warranty ran out?

I've had my Skoda Fabia for 3 years. The warranty ran out 10 days ago and the timing chain broke after only doing 38,000 miles. The dealer and Skoda U.K. are willing to pay £3500 towards the cost of new engine, which is £4500. Any advice?

Interesting that they are acknowledging the failure that was due to inconsistent quality of the links in the timing chains (itself caused by extending the life of the link stamping tools as a cost cutting measure).
