Do I need to spend £300 on paint protection for my new Volkswagen Golf?

I shall shortly be taking delivery of a new Golf. The Volkswagen dealership is trying to sell me a paint protection extra at some £300. Is it worth it or would regular polishing do the job just as well?

You can DIY with a £20 bottle of Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection from a car accessory shop.
