is it worth replacing my problematic old Volkswagen Passat?
How do I calculate whether it's worth keeping my existing car or replacing it? I have an eight-year-old Volkswagen Passat Estate 1.9TDI 140PS (52 plate, 97,000 miles), in average condition, which I keep having to repair. It is only now worth about £2500. I had the clutch and flywheel done last year (£1200) and a new computer (£750). I've just been told I need the cam belt job done (£500). There are other faults which keep emerging on a regular basis. The suspension looks like it needs new springs. Is it worth changing my car or keeping it?

You've answered your own question. You are pouring money you will never get back into an unreliable car, so get rid of it and get something newer.
