Is the Toyota Yaris D4-d engine prone to head gasket failures?

I read much about premature head gasket failures on early model 1.4 D4-d engines, fitted to the Yaris range and BMW MINI models. I am at present suffering with a failure, but I am led to believe it has been rectified by Toyota on later models. I would like to know the cause of these failures and what might have been the action taken by Toyota to rectify it.

I don't know. I would guess at a different type of cylinder head gasket.
