Does my Peugeot 407 SW have a brake vacuum pump fault?
I have a 54 reg Peugeot 407 SW HDI. When I first start up the brakes are inoperative as if with no servo assistance. The pedal is hard to push and when pushed has little effect on braking. If I wait with the engine running for a short while or drive off the braking comes back, and sometimes the braking comes back whilst my foot is on the pedal. The problem has been around for a while and is now getting more frequent. Could it be anything to do with the vacuum pump?

A diesel has a separate vacuum pump for the servo. This seems to be working, but the servo seems to lose its vacuum overnight, so I guess it must have a small leak.
