I got a parking fine at a supermarket car park - can I do anything?

My local branch of a well known supermarket provides free parking and it didn't occur to me that arrangements at a branch 10 miles away would be different. Nor did I see notices advising me of a 10 minute limit which could be extended to an hour and a half by entering my registration number at the checkout terminal.Today I received a Penalty Notice of £90, reduced to £45 if I pay within 14 days. Stupidly I didn't keep my receipt but could I do anything anyway? It will be in the supermarkets' interests because if I have to pay the fine I will never shop there again.

That's the way parking enforcement outfits are interpreting the Supreme Court Ruling in Beavis v Parking Eye. Unless a case like yours goes all the way to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court judges see sense, then the law will continue to give these people a licence to rip off the public.
