How can I contest a London Congestion Charge penalty?
For the first time in my life I had to drive to Battersea, South London at short notice. When I got to crossing the river bridge, I tried to get into the left lane and go west along Embankment to get back into the gardens, but with so many cyclists etc I was pushed to go straight on and to take next left in Chelsea to get back onto Embankment which I did some three minutes later. The Congestion Charge camera clocked me in Lower Sloane St. I have said the above in a letter and that the fine is two weeks of my pension money, but they say I must pay.

That's it. They make more money out of fining people for not paying the congestion tax than they make from the tax itself. If you strayed into the zone there is no get-out.
