Which SUV or estate is capable of carrying 9-foot rolls and photography equipment?
My son is a photographer who sometimes carries 9-foot backdrop rolls to shoots, as well as lighting poles etc, and needs to replace his ageing Shogun Sport. He would like better fuel economy, and occasional offroad ability for assignments up country tracks. Apart from your mention of the Nissan Pathfinder, I can't find any published information about the internal load length (front seat folded) of any SUV or estate on the internet. He has about £10,000 to spend, and a used vehicle two to four years old would be acceptable. What would you suggest?

I don't have this information. But two or three-year-old ex-Highways Agency Pathfinders and Discovery IIIs come for less than £10,000.
