Should I change my 10-year-old Honda Accord for a Vauxhall Vectra?

My Honda Accord is ten years old (I've had it for six of those) with 97,000 miles on the clock and it feels like it could do the same again with no problem. But I'm concerned that any car of this age will sooner or later start to become less reliable and need money throwing at it. Therefore I am, reluctantly, thinking about changing while the car is still worth a grand or so. I mainly use the car for a 20-mile round commute and value reliability, low running costs and 'lots of car for the money' above performance and prestige. I am drawn to a 3-year-old Vectra for under £6000. A wise buy? Or will I be disappointed after owning a Honda for so long? Should I just stick with the faithful Accord until it drops?

It's sensible to get it gone, but not for a Vectra. Better a Mondeo. Actually, current generation cars (last five years) are not as reliable as cars of 10 years ago because they contain more complex parts that fail.

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
