I bought a Honda Legend with mismatched tyres - will it pass an MOT?
I have bought a Honda Legend from a Honda dealer. On closer inspection after delivery (yes, I was too trusting of Honda), I have found that three of the four tyres match the manufacturer's specification of 235/55/R17 100W. However, the front offside tyre is an odd one in several respects. It is a directional tyre with a totally different tread to the others, a Goodyear 235/501ZR 17 96Y. Is such a mix legal, and what is the position in relation to the MOT? I did also visit an MOT centre and they looked at me rather blankly.

Pay for the MoT station to inspect the tyre and provide a written report on its legality. if they say it is illegal take the evidence back to the Honda dealer and if he won't replace the offending tyre take the matter to the small claims court.
