What sort of tyre damage is caused by road humps?

Straddling metre wide bumps to reduce the shock means that the tyres run along the chamfered edges and the abrasion caused by this rips the inner shoulders of the tyres to bits. Even worse, this is hidden damage, so the first a driver may be aware of it is when one of his front tyres blows sending him straight into the front of a 40 tonne truck.
