What dash camera should I buy and will using one reduce my insurance premium?
I'm a taxi driver and would like to fix a dash camera in my taxi. I contacted my insurance to find out if installing a dash cam could reduce my premium. They replied no and they will just make a note that I have fitted a dash cam. What dash cam should I buy? Also, is my insurer right or should I look for another insurance company?

It completely depends on the insurer as to whether they offer a discount or not, but it is always worth shopping around. Some insurers, especially those that cover taxis, do give good discounts if you do use a dash camera. In terms of what dash camera to buy, it essentially comes down to how much you want to spend. We have a lot of reviews for dash cameras, from bog standard models to cameras that offer a dozen different features. The Aukey DR01 (www.honestjohn.co.uk/products/product-reviews/2017.../) is about £40 on Amazon. It doesn't offer many extra features like Lane Departure warning, but the quality of footage is good enough to see number plates. You can pick up a dash cam like the Lanka for £20, but you get the quality that you pay for - so I tend to think it's worth paying a bit extra because it could save you a lot of time, hassle and money in the event of a crash. Cheap dash cams tend to record at poor quality in low light conditions, so they're not great in winter - but there are exceptions. At the other end of the scale, you can get a Nextbase 512GW, which offers speed detection, WiFi and GPS for £145 on Amazon. These are our top 10 dash cams to suit all budgets: www.honestjohn.co.uk/products/top-10s/top-10-best-.../
