Does the water pump need changed with the timing belt?
My 2013 Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI needs needs a new timing belt this year. Should the water pump be done at the same time? My local garage has told me the the water pump isn’t driven by the timing belt. Is this correct and does this mean it doesn’t need changing? What else requires changing along with the timing belt?

Your guys are half right. On the timing belt version of the EA211 1.4TSI, the water pump, alternator and a/c pump are driven by a separate belt. The trouble is, the drive for that separate belt is by the timing belt so if it seizes it will still throw the timing belt off. So change timing belt, tensioner, aux belt and waterpump.
