Rolls Royce Silver Spirit + Silver Spur - Ethanol in Petrol - Squerryes

Lots of discussion in Technical Forums of Rolls Royce Owners Club of Australia re ethanol on petrol (I'm in UK). Query: do you please have an up to date listing of ethanol free, E0, petrol availabe in the UK - thanks

Similarly, lots of dark mutterings and dire warnings about ethanol in fuel on classic bike forums in the UK.

I haven't seen a definitive list which states one forecourt brand is ethanol-free. The only advice I've seen is to use super unleaded in preference to normal if you have any concerns: however, I've no idea if super is guaranteed ethanol-free either.

Particularly nasty if you have a machine with a GRP tank. Even if you don't, it dissolves the rubber O-rings in the carbs.

Is the engine E!0 compliant if not do not use,I would have thought a simple question to RR would give you an answer.

Actually, HJ has addressed this issue, here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/37005/super-unle...l-

His answer says that super unleaded will typically contain max 5% ethanol (which most engines and fuel systems seem to be able to cope with), whereas normal unleaded can be up to 10% ethanol.

Having checked the BHVC register's website, they only list garages that still sell leaded fuel, there does not seem to be a definitive list of which modern fuels have ethanol.

In the 1960's Cleveland Discol was still on sale and advertised the benefits of its alcohol content, so presumably 1950s/1960s cars could cope with whatever percentage of ethanol it had?

Did not think E10 was available anywhere in the UK if that is the case it will not appear on any lists.
