What value do you put on the manufacturers warranty that you get with a new car,and would you be prepared to buy a new car without warranty if there was a price differential.
Obviously some brands have far more need of a manufactures warranty than others.
I would be prepared to buy,say a new Toyota without the warranty if it would save me perhaps £1000 off whatever price you could negotiate, but i guess that Toyota would say that the warranty costs are so minimal that you would only get about £20 off!

Over the years the main dealer servicing needed to keep a valid warranty has cost me far more than I have gained in repairs under it's terms. But I can budget for servicing, it's the thought of a major blow up with the costs down to me that would keep me awake at night.

I feel fairly sure that if you bought a brand-new car from a franchise, the warranty would be a non-negotiable part of the deal. What happens through a broker, I'm not so sure.

Don't forget that the warranty is only relevant insofar as it increases your legal rights. And in the first year it doesn't do much.

I'm sure with all the consumer protection laws that no manufacturer would let a member of the public buy a new car without their warranty, but i know that i would and im sure i'm not the only one,if there was a cash saving. It's only an insurance after all.

This seems to be leading to Cyprus imports which, if purchased in the UK, are not covered by any sort of warranty in the UK, not even the compulsory 12 months warranty which applies to all vehicles first sold within the EU. Toyotas first sold with in the EU are covered by the manufacturer's 3 year pan-European warranty, not a mechanical breakdown insurance.

I only used Toyota as an example, but would anybody else (apart from me)buy a brand new car if there was a cash adjustment if it came without a manufacturers warranty.
Just think, you would not have to worry about getting it serviced at main dealer palaces(big saving)but would obviously have to fund any breakdowns/failures.

I wouldn't buy any kind of Rover.

(Without a warranty, I mean...)

No, on seconds thoughts, I just wouldn't buy any kind of Rover.

Mainly because 'above all, they're Rover dealers' and 'above all, its a Rover' - thanks for the tip chaps!

In 3 years I estimate the warranty work that has had to be carried out on my Mercedes v class to be worth ~£3K.
My toyota Yaris however hasonly been back for handbrake adjustment.

You could always try motorwarranty direct for a personal warranty.

What exactly is the minimum required warranty by law. I thought it was 2 years in the EU. Citroen used to give you 1 year folowed by a 2 year dealer warranty which was optional. Recently they have changed this to 2 years followed by 1 years dealer.
I expect the dealer warranty is full of exceptions.
Some TV manufacturers sell TVs to their dealers without a warranty at a reduced price and the dealer then covers the risk.
