Oh dear, it would seem that some pedestrians are as pi**ed off with cyclists as we are!

The underlying conflict, peds/dogwalkers v cyclists on shared use, explains precisely why such mixings don't work.

I often use a shared path/cycle-track, but I won't use it at night or dawn/dusk because of extending dog leads - you can't see the things. If the dog walker's one side of the path/track and the dog's the other................................

I also find a bell of limited use. the number of times I've heard a pedestrian say " sorry, I didn't hear you the first time". How the hell do they know I've rung it more than once? My front brake screeches loudly, that's far more effective!

Years ago, the system of pathways from our house to the town centre involved alleyways with 'no cycling' signs and one old man who lived adjacent to the path used to wave his stick and get very aggressive towards cyclists who did not dismount. It seems to me ridiculous to encourage cycling on roads, yet discourage cyling on 'safe' routes that separate pedallists from motorists, yet those signs remain in place. Our town is actually on the route where main roads are closed for cycling only on several days of the year.
