I did have a 3 litre Invincible, cracking vehicle but heavy on fuel, not helped as it was auto.

The icon appears to be a slightly downrated version of the standard 2.5 engine, so it should be a bit better on fuel, whether the figures quoted can be believed i dunno, should be powerful enough for most uses.

They've probably had to do something to keep sales up, current Invincible is getting seriously expensive, so maybe a return to more or less top spec but with the more economical engine makes sense, they should never have dropped it in the first place.

I reckon Ford's new Ranger has hit Hilux sales, you see lots of new Rangers out on the road, choice of engines there.

Thanks for your message. It seems Toyota only want people to buy the invincible, as its the top of the range. Also what I have noticed, there are alot of almost new invincibles for sale and hardly any icon's. Perhaps this has something to do with the heavuy fuel consumption as you mentioned.

I`ve got a manual 13 plate Invincible (my 3rd Hilux) with 10k miles, which has averaged 38 mpg (Fuelly confirmed) with no problems whatsoever.

An absolutely fantastic pickup without any equal on the market today, don`t even contemplate anything else honestly, I`ve had a Ranger 2.5 tdci and an Isuzu Rodeo 3.0d which were ok unlike the very troublesome Amarok.

The lads on the Hilux forum will be able to answer any questions in detail, www.hpoc.co.uk/

The all new Hilux will be out end of next year / early 2016
