Vauhall Corsa 1.2 petrol 2011 plate - Vauxhall Corsa - limp mode - Mitch21

I have been having trouble with my car for over 12 months now. Particularly in cold weather, when I start to speed up to join the motorway first thing in the morning, when I go to change gear my car stutters and goes into limp mode and the engine management light comes on. I have to pull over, turn the car off for 10 seconds and then back on and all is fine and it doesn't do it again that day. It always does it first thing in the morning and mainly when it is cold. It seems to be as soon as I try to speed up about 60mph joining the motorway.

I have had it in the garage several time, to check the fault codes and each time it comes back with a new fault, that gets changed and low and behold it does it again!! I'm starting to think that the faults it saying are not faulty and that it may be the computer or something else that is causing it to do this.

Has anyone else had this problem or able to assist in what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

When a fault code is logged,it means that the engine control system has identified a reading of a component or sensor that it does not like or is not familiar with.Very often it is not the part logged as a fault that is actually the problem. It can easily be the result of a problem ,not the cause.I would suggest that you take it to a specialist that can read and understand what is actually going on with the engine system. Also do you have the correct grade engine oil?

Fault codes can be defined into two categories.

1. Circuit faults - Where a component or wiring is either open or short circuit.
2. Mechanical faults - Where a fault exists that is having an effect on a sensor or component that then causes the ECM to recognise an 'out of range' condition. These type of faults are not necessarily the fault of the sensor in question.
