Audi Q3 - Car on order with all the things Backroomers hate! - 72 dudes

Mrs 72 dudes recently had a medical reassessment for PIP, and to our surprise, she has been awarded the enhanced rate of mobility, meaning entitlement to swap her benefit for a Motability car.

She wanted a high driving position and automatic, so it was off to look at small SUVs. Not being a very confident driver, she wanted a lowish fascia and shortish bonnet. This excluded things like the Qashqai, Kadjar, Ateca.

I wanted to go Petrol due to short journeys, so that excluded others like the X1 and Sportage.

Basically came down to the Mokka X 1.4T Elite or the Audi Q3 1.4TFSi Sport.

Mrs 72 dudes liked the Mokka interior with the heated leather seats, but I felt it was dull to drive. The Audi Q3 on the other hand was very impressive, both loved it. Same engine as that in Skidpan's forthcoming Superb.

So it has a S-Tronic gearbox, an electric handbrake and cylinder on demand technology, all things we tend to advise people to steer clear of, certainly with a second-hand purchase. A bit of research suggests this is the 6 speed wet clutch DSG, as opposed to the dry clutch 7 speed which was the more troublesome. The test drive showed it to be a superbly smooth engine/gearbox combination.

Obviously, for us, it's not an issue, as it's a contract-hire agreement, including servicing, insurance, VED, breakdown cover, tyres etc. A really good deal.

Picking it up Friday 10th.

I'll keep you posted on whether we have any issues over the coming months.

Did you order the "indicators delete" no-cost option ?

But seriously, hope you both enjoy it.

Good lad. Sensible options in my opinon, especially on an automatic car the EB makes perfect sense. Had several cars with EBs and all on autos.

Thanks both.

The EHB is Standard now, the only options we added (at half price after negotiation) was the "Comfort Pack", which includes Cruise Control (must have), front parking sensors (nice to have), high beam assist (not neccessary) and dipping rear view mirror (not bothered).

Metallic paint is included in the contract hire price, but as we didn't want to wait 14 weeks for a factory order (impatient), we went for a new in stock model which is metallic black.

Sounds like a veryb good choice. The Q3 was on my shortlist last year, although we ended up with the V60 (SWMBO was more comfortable in it, and there was a good deal on the Volvo). But particularly as we've now got the A1 as well, there's a bit of me that wishes we'd gone for the Q3, probably with the 2.0 petrol engine (although the 1.4 is fine and yours won't be uinderpowered).

I comfort myself with the thought that the Volvo will probably last longer.

The 1.4 TSI is one of the great engines of all time, probably the best I have ever driven. Enough power, bags of torque and diesel rivalling economy. Its refinement is top notch as well.

In the real world its all anyone could possibly want. Said it before but a colleagues Auris Hybrid was no better on fuel and to get close he had to drive everywhere like a vicar wheras I drive perfectly normally.

Enjoy.

I've got the 1.4TSI 122hp engine in a 3-year old Audi A1. Great engine. Capable of cracking 50mpg in the A1 without too much difficulty, i.e. if I take it a bit more gently!
