Not for long methinks!. Small posh SUV's are the fastest growing market, so now the XC40 is out, the XC60 will soon be pushed into 2nd place.

Any ideas on mpg?

Depending on planned use - urban / extra-urban etc I'd guess low 30's around town and 40's over longer distances.

These types of cars are not purpose designed SUV's, they are the maker's standard cars made to look more substantial, and sometimes with a part time driven rear axle chucked on to aid on-road slippery weather progress, they are not built to take the punishment a purpose designed 4x4 will.

There's nothing wrong with that as such, because purpose designed 4x4's tend to be more agricultural, which not everyone wants.

The only car i've ever had an engine mounting break was on a Land Crab, itself some 10 years old at the time.

You don’t need to hit road cushions at 50 to damage under engineered engine mounts. Likewise the beauty of buying an SUV is to be able to take speed humps easier at a higher speed, if your Volvo has parts made of cheese I’m struggling to see the advantage. I Have found most modern Volvos to be cramped inside, seems to run through the range both in the front of the car and in the passenger seats.

How do you know they are under engineered? Harris did things no normal user would do. It is probably engineered to take the worst abuse expected in normal use, over 150,000 or more miles.but apply absurd forces to metal, and it will fail. I can assure you the engine mounts are not made of cheese, or even hard cheese.
