I`ve put in a can of Ceratec with the oil and filter changes on my last 6 vehicles.

Liqui Molys products have a really good reputation

Any objective evidence that this stuff actually does anything beneficial?

I don`t know but doubt it, like me some users find it smooths and quietens motors but purely subjective.

Makes me feel better to think it may also give some extra cold start protection on my vehicles which often stand unused for weeks.

Peace of mind is priceless

The old PTFE based engine oil additives used to give people peace of mind untill the engine siezed up, the PTFE used to clog up the oilways and cause oil starvation. that was the peace of mind (an almost silent engine for a while) they were- tried and tested- or meant to be.

IMO best to stick to normall OEM oil filter change, engine should still start after weeks of standing without additives....

Just my opinion!

But then again that is just your opinion, mine happens to differ.

I bought a brand new engine that had stood in a crate for 5 years, never fitted or ran. I replaced the factory oil and filter before running it. Turned it over on the starter with the plugs out until oil pressure registered, refitted plugs and it started immediately with no rattle.

10 years later it still starts on the button and other than an annual change of factory spec oil and filter needs no maintenance. It stands from late October to early April every year and when I start it there is no rattle, oil pressure is there instantly.

Never used additives and never will. If they were needed the manufacturers would make them a condition of the warranty and sell them at highly inflated prices. Instead most say not to use additives since modern oil and petrol contains all the engine needs.

Opinions have always differed on whether additives work or not, and I doubt it will change, as long as there are differences of opinion there is something to discus, all I will add is I would not waste money on them, and as has been said if OEMs wanted you to use additives they would advise use of them, none do that I am aware of.....

I find those that buy these additives will always defend the additive regardless of whether they work or not, after all who wants to admitt they made a mistake....or not?

There shouldn't be any "opinions" about whether additives work. There should be scientifically verifiable information to establish whether specific additives have any effect and if so, what exactly that is.

In the absence of such evidence, relying on these substances to produce any beneficial effect is an act of blind faith reminiscent of superstition.

As has been said, if these additives really do what is claimed, it is reasonable to ask why major oil manufacturers' products do not already contain them.

I answered the question the OP asked if `Anyone had tried Ceratec`, they didn`t ask for a debate on additives

Unike some I`ve no axe to grind, its not a hard choice to make if you don`t understand or believe in additives..... Don`t use them, simple as that, obvious init ?

Do I look bovvered ?
