Watchdog & Peugeot - joshua
Anyone see the Watchdog progamme tonight which highlighted the problems with certain Peugeots catching fire, anyone had this happen and is it that common?
Watchdog & Peugeot - Big_CDA
Didn't see it, but have heard the rumours for a while.

According to the grape vine there are also significant problems with 307s, caused by faulty ignition barrels causing the starter to remain on, a very dodgy batch of batteries, and also wiring similar to the problem with the 406.

Odd about the "recall" though - I thought the only 406 recalls recently for the 406 were the Boot (in may) and the Airbags (August).

Anyone got an inside line on this - I drive one of the 2002 Deisels and am therefore v interested.....

All the information is in part of the Vehicle Inspectorate website. Worth checking other makes as well for any recalls you may have missed:

Doesn't really give that much detail though - would be reassuring to know more.

Also, where then is the infamous boot lock recall? (around May if I remember)

Blinking well missed it - got called to custody on the way home...especially after my premature post last night.

Why doesn\'t Big CDA check out car by car breakdown? But thanks Charles for pointing out the VCA/VOSA name change. It\'s very hard to keep track of government department namechanges these days. URL directory duly corrected.

Thanks for the tip (although the airbag recall has not made it on yet - mind you, the amount of recalls there have been....

there any way of checking on line whether a car has had the various recalls done? Or do you have to take it in to a dealer? - I take it there is no Peugeot recall site......

Also, and this is no doubt a silly question but I freely admit to knowing very little, what does TSB stand for on the car by car breakdown?

Technical Service Bulletin.

The way of checking whether there are any outstanding recalls is to check with the relevant dealer or calling the manufacturers customer assistance centre.

Make sure you have all the details to hand such as Reg No, VIN No, Date of Registration and they should be able to help.

One final point. Not all recalls are logged officially in the public domain as manufacturers are charged by the DVLA on a per vehicle basis for tracing owners. Non safety related improvements or service campaigns dealers will only carry out if a vehicle happens to be in for a service.

CDA - in my experience a Peugeot which has had recall work done carries a blue sticker under the bonnet with the car's VIN and a code identifying the recall. Have a look.

HJ,

seeing as Watchdog seem to be having a bit of a go at Peugeot, did they ever get to grips with that problem of thrown conrods?

Or was it all eventually put down to poor maintenance and infrequent oil changes?

Just picked up the thread. Not mentioned in the vosa recall notice, but the watchdog programme referred to a "changeover to multiplex wiring".

In answer to FiF, no. And yes, put down to low oil levels. I get a few readere writing to me complaining that their engines are using oil between 20,000 mile and 30,000 mile oil changes.

Thank you HJ.

FIF,

I am starting to worry more and more about extended intervals being a clue to some engines wearing/failing much earlier than expected.

I'll throw up a new thread later.

I would reckon you are right. Right from the start of the Backroom back in mid? 2000 a fairly regular point of agreement has been the beneficial effects of regular oil changes at less than the VM recommendations. So why not the opposite?

It is something of a puzzle to me that when the 6K oil change is championed here quite a few folks would blindly follow the makers advice thinking they knew better.

Anyway later...got a Mercedes to do which the owner sensibly has serviced 6 monthly...about 1,800mls between oil changes.

That's more like it.
