The concurrent discussion of congestion, drink driving and 4x4s having no small part in it, I'm sure!

Not to mention poor HF's Astra......

It's a full time job trying to read them all! This site is too addictive - must pop in to the next room and say hello to my wife sometime (not yet though!) assuming she hasn't left me some time ago!

Out of interest,
How are the advertisers made aware of the popularity of the site?. Do they monitor it themselves,is the number of visitors to the site automatically monitored by their computers, does it depend on the number of times we click on their links, or do they just employ an agent to monitor their advertising?.
Just Mal being curious.

And there was me thinking that Thursday's were generally the quietest day of the week (excluding weekends of course)

We do not want you nodding off on the job.
I hope the editing task was low to compensate for the record number of poopings.

To answer Mal: 'The Backroom' is monitored by us but not by the media agency or the advertisers. They monitor 'impressions' or 'click-throughs' or both. If they are really sophisticated, they follow 'click-throughs' to actual sales. The dealer banners, etc are monitored by 'click-throughs'. We can monitor some of them, but not, for example, the Autotrader nested search engine.

Perhaps Backroom members should make a point of clicking at least one ad each time they visit the site! This may help HJ's revenue stream a little. I would hate to lose the site.

This is a site that must be unique on the Internet and one that HJ should rightly be proud of.
In my limited knowledge it is the only one where civilised decent discussion and informative knowledge can be found without contibutors resorting to bad language and abuse which is so common to other sites.
His moderators must take credit for keeping it this way and long may it continue.

Excellent job HJ and co.

I'm now going on my Christmas holiday and so won't be contributing to the post total until I get back to work in the new year, but once I've read through all the new posts I shall be joining in again (I reckon that should be around June) :)

Merry Christmas everybody, drive safely!

20.53 on Friday 12th December and The Backroom has seen 300 postings in discussion so far today, plus 67 in technical matters. But you can all see that for yourselves. The click-throughs to the hottest deals are also doing very well.

Have to agree with Alvin. There are a couple of other sites that I log into (Citroen ones!) which also have very civilised discussion - and I recognise some of the names on them from this site. What makes Hj and these sites different is the sheer knowledge of many contributors, not only on technical motoring matters (M.M, RichardW and others), but also on a wide range of other topics that suggests that the contributors are mature, experienced and generous, with a willingness to help their fellows - see the "I have a question" threads also (so many people with expert knowledge of legal matters, central heating, computers, Renault Clio ignition systems! etc, etc). Even those I disagree with usually take care to put their side of the argument with well-reasoned points (Yes, even about bull-bars!)In contrast, I also used to log into various Rugby message boards but have given up on them because any comment is immediately responded to with a torrent of four letter word abuse for no good reason except that the respondents are totally bigotted, one eyed, low-life.
Long may the Honest John site continue - I think the byline of one of our contributors sums it up (sorry can't remember who it is at the moment!) "Forever indebted to the knowledge of others" or words to that effect. Moderators take a bow also for their moderating influence!
Happy Christmas, and thanks for the help and entertainment!

well said - and Season's Greetings to All involved in running and contributing to this great site

Agreed. Best site I have ever had the pleasure to visit. The HJ site *must* go on and on.

Just a little disturbed that the upsurge in posts seems to have coincided with myself and Rob re-gaining internet access. Surely we are not that sad? (Mark an answer from you is not required, thank you! ;) )

Could this be due to the new underware offer seen earlier on Friday before Mark spoiled the fun I wonder? Hehe.

Agree on the comments. This is one of three very good internet sites I visit regularly (the other 2 are share trading). It has by far the best informed and least bigotted/rude posts of any.

Long may it continue as an example to all others.
