In the telegraph today in HJ's motoring columl our leader mentioned that a mechanic had spotted that one of brake pipes had been cut.
Was this an attempt on his life?.
Has he upset someone on this forum?.
Who would want to harm our beloved leader?.
Has he a dark past that has come back to seek revenge?.
Has he any skeletons it the cupboard?.
HJ, come clean , we want to help, as you know we have in this forum, police, lawyers etc. etc. that would form a team to find the dastardly person that tried to eliminate our leader.
This forum will not last without our leader.
Something must be done!

Missed that article!
Could it not have been a shard of metal/sharp stone etc etc?

It was both front pipes. So no, not some bit of metal bouncing up from the road service. That was when I gave up investigative journalism. No point in risking your life to do a story some mean minded editor may or may not give you £300 for. Better to live in the real world.

My son told me that two blokes had been having a feud which was getting nasty. One night one of them slipped under the other's car and cut the flexible hose. Sadly, the car was a Citroen, and he got the wrong one. My son seemed to regard it as a condign punishment.

>>condign
Is that a word I don't know or a mistype that I can't work out ?

Mark
It means deserved or fitting (punishment)!

Thank you. I have to say I have never come across the word.

That's another one for scrabble then!

Sounds good Paul but it's not in my dictionary although it is only a Collins Gem.
Or was it quick thinking???..similar to an old pal who used to use the most outrageous words which we wouldn't accept.

In my posting I was merely making light of what I thought was a mistaken choice of descriptive word by HJ in his column.I never took it to literally mean that an attempt was realy made on his life.
I feel a bit shocked that it was true.
I hope my lighthearted posting has not offended HJ or anybody else.
Regards Mal.

'Condign'
Sorry people, I read too much. I will try not to use obscure words in future.
See the 'Concise Oxford Dictionary'. I checked in Fowler's 'Modern English Usage' to make sure if I had used it correctly. It means deservedly severe, and with the emphasis of appropriate to the crime.
