Having sold the wifes Clio without even advertising it (I think I asked too little at £3200), I'm off to the auction tomorrow for a replcement. Having got 13 months out of the car, with zero depreciation, should be interesting. I'll let you all know what I get ('cause I know you'll be lying awake worrying).

Which auction? If it's Blackbushe, might see you there. I'll be the bloke not wearing the hat.

As a matter of interest HJ, do you still trade frequently, or our you auction interests stictly limited to journalism these days?

In answer to Quinny, as long as there are 36 hours in every day I'll carry on trading. But there aren't, so I don't.

Well, I've come back empty handed. Prices were very strong today. Bid on an 'X' plate Rover25 1.6iL, nice nick but gave up at £3600. Eventually went for £3725, which with the £160 buyers premium, makes it quite expensive. Also fancied a '51' plate Megane 1.4 with 47000m. Lost interest at £4100. There were loads of very dodgy looking 02 plate Puntos, with dash stickers that suggested holiday hire cars. They also sounded like diesels. (Actually 1.2 petrol). Averaged around £3500 but all were provisional.
Resorted to buying a Trader on the way home. Off to look at a Rover25 at £3695. If I can beat him down, might take a punt.

If you REALLY want a Rover 25, check the Motability sections in auction.
You'll find 01Y plates coming through from time to time, a shade less than £4000, I've seen them at.All low, or very low miles, from this source, too.
Only noticed them 'cos I've been shopping for an Astra auto & prices seem to have dropped again this week.Amounts like £3700 for a 3 door 1.6 manual 20k Astra seem VERY keen, to me!!
Theres always another sale tomorrow & the next day & ....

It's my wife who wants the 25, I'd have rather she went for something slightly larger. However, bought the 25 from the trader. It was in excellent condition. One owner from 3 months old (Registered to Rover prior to that.) Just been fully serviced and I couldn't find a mark on it. It's a 2000 and he accepted £3500. Pleased with the deal, it's just that I haven't got that warm glow I had when I bought the Clio. I knew then that I had bought well below book price and it showed that in 13 months I never lost a single pound in depreciation. Oh well, the boss is pleased. (She still read her book last night though!!!!)
