In response to something Catherine wrote, this is a thread for female backroomers to talk about anything they like which is loosely motor related without having to worry about being intimidated by male backroomer postings. So it\'s girls in. Blokes out. Any blokes postings will be edited out and their accounts disabled.

Thanks, HJ, for this thread -- it seems like a great idea, esp since so few women post here, and it's easy to feel outnumbered.
Things have been better in recent weeks, but there have been times when even a stroppy cow like me has felt a bit overwhelmed by all the men.

*lost for words*
I'm off to read the thread that prompted this.
HJ, surely this site isn't remotely intimidating? Informative, yes, welcoming, yes, clearly (and not surprisingly) mostly male, but intimidating? No way!
I have every confidence that the eagle-eyed Mods would soon see to any nonsense.
I genuinely thank you for thinking of our welfare, but I think this thread is a big mistake and for one will continue to post as normal.
Sorry to rock the boat.

Thanks all the same HJ but I for one am quite capable of conversing with men without feeling intimidated, and find your attitude, frankly, patronising.
I'm sure it was done with good intentions though! :)

HJ truly it's a nice idea. In Asia as you know we don't have that problem about competing with our men all the time. We don't have a need to prove ourselves that way. Man is man and woman is woman here not the other way around. As you know with Thailand, same is true here in the Philippines (Billy-boys, though LOL!)
For me I love to share my experience on the road with other women
and I think it's fine to have a separate thread. We have special experiences than men and I know my bike course (all girls) would never have been so helpful for me if men were on it.
I think I am very confident in my relationship with my Boss, its how nature intended and i don't have to prove anything.
Actually I have started work on my girl rider group while i got my stupid leg. Some interest, I got 3 already. Jake has suggested maybe I could take over his lady rider course if I get some more experience and of course take the Instructor Course. But I know I have much more work to do for that.
G he says he won't let me ride out with just girls without one of our guys present. It makes sense. We will always need our man around to look out for us and if we don't accept that we take a risk. Its not a patronising thing its a fact of life.
OK I am an Asian lady with different values but i think a Girltalk thread is really a great idea.
Lately I'm posting too much. Sorry.

This came from Rebecca, not from HJ, but she wasn't able to post it herself because her IE crashed.
I hope my comments have not been misunderstood re Girltalk.
I have not been offended or patronised by the suggestion for a separate thread. My reaction was shock and surprise that anyone could feel intimidated by the Back Room. Nothing to do with being politically correct or anything like that. If I hope the thread goes away, it's because I think it would be divisive, but I still thank HJ for having my interests at heart.
The Back Room is welcoming and informative and properly moderated to ensure that nothing gets out of hand. I have recommended it many times on a parenting site where the regulars are nearly all women. Over the years I've seen them pop in, ask their question, get several well-informed answers, and go. If they don't hang around I don't think it's a reflection on the site, just that their interests lie elsewhere.
Anyway, I tried to post a message to this effect this morning, but IE crashed on me again, and now the thread is locked. If possible, can it be added to the thread? No problem if not.
Keep up the good work, as they say.
