Probably asked a million times before, but indulge me please! When is the best time of year to be a buyer/seller of a used car?
Im not talking convertables, 4x4's or ecotics etc as prices for these depend on the season/weather, just your average family car. TIA for any replies.

October/November have been the best months to buy for the past 10 years. But obviously not the best months to sell. Spring is usually the best time to sell, but not always. Things aren\'t brilliant right now but used prices are slightly propped up by a supply shortage of good stock.

So if you can do without a car for six months of the year, you can cut the cost of depreciation as well...
What HJ says is correct, naturally, but in the real world, if you like a deal more than you like the cash, and you're confident that you can't do better (or at least it wouldn't be worth the effort of trying) then that's a good time to change cars, irrespective of what the market is doing as a whole because there's always that 'just around the corner' elusive deal.

For a new car, just before the end of the month and, depending on the time of year, just before each registration plate change; dealers probably make more money on manufacturers' bonus payments than on actual new car sales so they have more scope for you to haggle.
In the case of a used car, at the best (i.e. lowest) possible price to you to change including your part exchange allowance (if you have a vehicle to PX).

I agree with the dealers bonus,if you can find out when they need to sell the last car to make bonus numbers then you will get the best deal, saves them having to register it themselves as a demonstrator.

I've bought our last two cars in Oct/Nov, on the basis that prices are at a low point then. Obviously not a good time to sell, but as the new cars were more expensive than the outgoing cars, on balance it's the best time for the transaction.

I always think January:folks are strapped for cash after the holidays and won,t want to spend out on cars much, great time to go for a convertable too!
