How did it go? - volvoman
Haven't been popping in here so often lately but recall there was a meet due in Dorset last weekend IIRC. What happened?? Was I imagining it? The thread's gone and not a comment from anyone since so far as I can see. Did ND terminally embarrass himself or is he still recovering from the effects of excess cider in a hedge somewhere? :)

Three people turned up, two with the surname "Dosh", the third being Alyn Beattie.

I did manage to lose a few hours on Friday evening and Sturday afternoon thanks to SuiCider; one of Devon's finest exports.

Still, I was far from lonely. The place was crammed!

Ah well - glad it didn't spoil your enjoyment too much ND. I believe you were very lucky with the weather though - a very heady mix strong cider and sunshine :)

Just a thought but could the abysmal attendance at all BR meets to date be due in large part to people, having promised to show up, feel (rightly or wrongly) they may not be able to live up to or subsequently maintain their online image/ reputation. Of course things can/do crop up unexpectedly but there are so many people here and after a few false starts Dan J's earlier attempt really looked as though it might herald the start of a regular get together. If nothing else it's nice to be able to put faces to names. With the exception of the enigmatic 'DD' I know for example that we are blessed with at least 2 moderators who bear an
uncanny resemblence to well known and much loved personalities (whose names I will happily reveal to anyone for a small payment). They also now know that I'm not as old as I may seem :)

I've said it once, I'll say it again. If anyone is up Lancashire/Merseyside way (although why you would be I don't know) I'll have a pint...or two.

If the weather's okay this weekend, I've promised a mate to show up for Americar at Stoneleigh Park Exhibition Centre, Coventry, this weekend 11th - 12th. Features the yellow Deuce Coupe and '55 Chevy from American Graffiti and there should be more hot rods than hot dogs. Details at www.americar2004.com (Actually, doesn't matter too much about the weather because most of the show in in exhibition halls.)

I was at the steam fair on Saturday but the family had other ideas of where I had to be at the appointed hour. The weather was fantastic, we were all hot and knackered at the end of the day. Highlights of the show were the Wall of Death, all those steam trucks and the Badger Best.

Friday night was a great laugh, several pints of Best, dancing on the tables to the Madness tribute band and a midnight ride on the Big Wheel. For a moment I was 17 again....

For a number of apple related reasons I was passed-out in my tent when the Madness tribute band were on, much to my disgust when I awoke at 2:00am!
How did it go? - Alyn Beattie
Hi All

Was in attendance from Wednesday lunchtime to late Sunday night. Met up with Mr and Mrs No Dosh on Friday afternoon to listen to Lady Winwood's Maggot. Good band, good beer and excellent company. Also had some free advice on looking after my apple trees.

Unfortunately the engine was playing up and we spent far too many hours working on the ***** thing. Still, all part of life's rich tapestery.

No Dosh have you posted the pictures you took?

I'm sane, it's the rest of the world that's mad.

ND if you have pictures then it surely is our right to see them?

It's a pity you had a stomach bug/food poisoning/tropical disease which had you laid up. Maybe you should have tried some alcohol. I'm told it can do wonders.

Alyn, from way back, lovely to see you in the BR again, and just sorry I wasn't able to be there to meet you.

Other people - like V-man says, I guess (and V I haven't noticed you featuring prominently in BR get-togethers - and yes you have reasons, as do so many of us) they are a really good thing when they happen, but sadly too few people ever turn up. The first one was great for those of us there, I would have liked to be at the second and the third, but really couldn't do it.

I hope these poor turn-outs don't stop people, though. I'd like to turn up to a meeting again, if it was get-to-able and if I knew someone there.

HF - That's true as I said but why promise and then not show? We hoped to be at DanJ's but couldn't for reasons you appreciate. However, IIRC quite a few people said they'd be at DanJ's then didn't show for no apparent reason. Sadly, we didn't get our holiday in Dorset this year so ND's event was out too. Having said all that we've still managed to meet up with a few BackRoomers, shared a bevvy (or three) and had a laugh haven't we. How many others here have done that?

Hi again Alyn,

Email me an address and I'll print them off and send them this weekend. The files are a bit too large to email.

Probably the best shot is of Forest Maiden calling "time" at midnight on Saturday. I'll email that one on its own this eveing as you and the guys may want to use it to show the Maiden off or even sell copies to raise a £ or two towards her upkeep.
