I quote a press release which appears to contradict itself. Almost as if it was written six weeks ago so what it tells us is happening now happened six weeks ago and what it predicts will happen later is what\'s happening now:

\"Supply drowning used car market

Consumers hunting for a used car this autumn can afford to be fussy shoppers, says independent price guide, WiseBuyer\'s.

With the new car market set to deliver yet another record year, the used car supply network is on the verge of being choked.

\"Supply is finally starting to outstrip demand,\" says WiseBuyer\'s editor, Nic Barfield.

\"The net result is further downward pressure on used values as the market tries to contend and adjust.\"

However, with so much stock slushing about, buyers can afford to be fussy about specification, colour, mileage and condition.

\"There\'s no pleasure in compromise, and many motorists are now able to refuse second-best,\" adds Barfield.

Apart from top condition diesel engined superminis and family cars, used values are following an almost universal downward pattern.

Some Alfa, Fiat, Ford, Vauxhall, Nissan, Rover and Toyota models have shed up to 5 percent in recent weeks. Other heavy fallers include the Citroen Berlingo, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Peugeot\'s 306 and its replacement 307 and the old shaped Astra and Vectra duo from Vauxhall.

WiseBuyer\'s does, however, add a word of caution.

\"The current climate for the bargain hunter will not last forever. Even though the new car market is buoyant, reports from dealers suggest a gradual slowdown.

\"That means less surplus finding its way onto the used lot, leaving the buyer with less choice and a worse bargaining position,\" explains Barfield.

The new 265 page WiseBuyer\'s price guide contains pricing on 195,000 models. Available at all good retailers for £2.50\"

Yes yes yes!! How very timely NW, as the only reason I'm posting at this time in the afternoon is because I've just been sacked from my temp job. The reason? I worked too hard and there's not enough work.

Grrrrrr!!

Oooh, not one-tracked, just a bit depraved and too prone to letting mental images distort themselves :)

I've been to most of the auctions at Bedford over the last few weeks.

There's not been many decent motors go through the block and those that have have been going for over book. During the school holidays many were snapped up as "bargains" by private buyers.

Hopefully, with 54 plate motors now being sold, there'll be enough of a flow down to be able to buy cars at trade price again, but there's definately a current shortage of good used cars going through the block.
