It is very pleasing to see that people and fleet buyers are ignoring the ravings of Mr Clarkson en masse.

Couldn't agree more! He is the sole reason I no longer watch Top Gear.

Obviously ellesmere Port has declared UDI since I was last up north.
|
Pugugly - Elesmere Port ain't the place it once was, for car building - & a few weekends ago, the Vauxhall sign, was removed, in Luton.
Despite promises from GM, that it waould stay - can't think why it should have remained, but certainly caused a bit of anger, on Radio local & the press, around here!

And don't IPC Vehicles build vans for Vauxhall & Renault in Luton? Whenever I travel up the M5 about 1 in 4 car transporters is loaded with Opel Astras from Ellesmere Port on the way for export.

Yes, correct on the above points. However GM are building a big extension to the Russelsheim plant (near Mainz, Germany) and it is only a matter of time before car production ceases in the UK.
The GM/Renault van deal is a different issue, but I suspect that its days may be numbered simply as a result of the Renault/Nissan tie-up.

Vauxhall is now broking its own internet deals. Order via the site. Pick the car up at your local Vauxhall dealer. £3,200 off an Astra Convertible. Quick link: www.vauxhall.co.uk/vip

IIRC they started doing this about 4 years ago.
Howevr most dealers will beat any VIP if you tell them about the site.

In response to hxj.
Yes, but the deals are now better.

The story I read this week about GM europe doesn't look so good, Corsa production has been halted for 11 days due to low demand, there is talk of a plant closure & a pay freeze until 2009.
Ford are doing very well in Europe this year, in terms of sales they have grown more than anyone (in terms of percentage they have not because their share is so large). The first seven months of the year Ford sold 56 thousand more cars, GM Europe less than half that.

Not surprising. My fil has been after new car for a while. after checking out several MD including vx.got a great deal on Yaris toyota.I was there to help negotiate. not an easy task as most know. a new car for £7000 1.3 vvti five door.sat nav and multi change player installed.Unlike the Nissan it did seem to be greater access to engine components. And I mean room to move. This is only my opinion but yaris should be cheaper to service. big advantage no cambelt...?

I have been using an Opel Vectra 2.0T Elite hatch this week (thanks Hertz). It's really good... long time since I said that about a GM product.
|
|
Our fleet of 3.2 Vectras are having horrendous problems with oil leaks. I can forgive the engine throwing white sludge all over the road, but those indicators..!!!!
|
I like the indicators
to a while to get used to them, bt after abotu an hours driving I ended up thinking they were a definate improvement

I read often, only post occasionally

I like the indicators
Ditto.
I can't get used to swapping over to a car with the traditional set up. I keep tapping the stalk gently expecting the indicators to give 3 flashes and then self cancel.
