Very fond memories of a Mk1 Ford Escort in Daytona Yellow. Looked great in yellow.

I know I keep banging on about the VX220 but I think it looks terrific in yellow. And where does this idea that it's ugly come from? A nice look of understated aggression I think. The sight of those rear flanks in the door mirror is fab.
|
Certainly new I would agree but they seem second hand bargains.
HJ's auction report a week or so ago had two pretty similar Leon Cupras, the yellow one being over a grand cheaper than the black one (I seem to recall).
I would have gone for the yellow one at the price had I been there.

Depends on the particular shade of yellow - same with green, especially some of the light coloured ones which can really trouble the eyes.
My daughter had the first yellow Renault Megane two-litre Coupe to be sold in the North West back in 1995 or 1996 - it was featured in all the Renault advertising in this colour and she loved it. It was the most popular colour for this model as far as I'm aware and there are still plenty around here.

Perhaps the best place to be is actually inside these 'lemons', looking out?

I seen to remember seeing somewhere that yellow is the easiest colour for other drivers to see .....
Many moons ago, Warwick University were commissioned by Coventry fire service to come up with a noticeable and unique colour for their vehicles because they reckoned that red fire engines didn't stand out sufficiently amongst the plethora of red trucks on the road already. The outcome was a striking greeny-yellow which was subsequently given British Standards recognition and was named Coventry Fire Engine Yellow. Unfortunately after a few years "the government" demanded that all fire service vehicles must be red. Pity really, because the yellow was absolutely striking and really stood out. It was said that some people found it so striking that after looking at it for a few minutes they felt physically sick!

Seen a bright yellow 54 Reg Jag X type recently in Edinburgh. Turns what I think is an attractive car into a hideous one. Absolutely revolting. Must knock hundreds off the resale value.

It's my choice as THE colour, especially on sports cars & even on more mundane motors, it's an excellent choice!!
Think of these few & tell me I'm wrong....
All small Fiats
70's Fords
VX 220
Daihatsu Copen
US muscle cars
King-cab pick ups
Hummer
RX8 (lightning yellow has NOW been added as a UK colour choice, it wasn't initially, despite being the pre launch, show cars, mostly being so)
& there was talk of a EU directive, that all utility vehicles, were to be yellow.(Wonder ehere that idea went??)That was the same year BT went grey - the CRAZIEST choice, for anything that would spend it's life, mostly, at the roadside!!

Mnay years ago, an advertising man told me that yellow increases the blink rate and thereby attracts attention. So yellow, he claimed, is a great color to grab the attention of a potential buyer, who will however want to buy any colour except yellow ...

Saw a Merc SLK about a year ago, looked OK; but what was especially striking was the registration: YEL10W

Maybe it belonged to Kenny Rogers? tinyurl.com/3sulq

In a recent auction report I mentiond two otherwise identical SEAT Leon 20VTs. The black one made over £1,000 more than the yellow one.

Yellow is a bit different at least, stands out more than metallic silver which has become just a bit common! Some cars look good in yellow, Leons, Ferraris, mark IV cortinas...
|
I'm on my third yellow car. None were chosen for the colour. It's just the way things worked out when I was buying.
With the current one I wanted a particular car and the only one available immediately happened to be yellow. I like the way it looks, so I'm happy. Do I care if anyone else likes it or not? Nope.

996 GT3 in speed yellow is the only colour it should come in. Gorgeous.

There's just enough to make a game of (wait for it) "yellow car" worthwhile with the kids on a trip. 1 point for a yellow car, 2 points for a yellow car spotted on another road to the one you're on. 5 points for a yellow car towing or being towed. It is rather addictive tough.
Weirdly there's always more of them on the other side of road though.
|
It really does depend on the car.
A yellow BMW 5 Series would look terrible, whereas a yellow Citroen Saxo looks no worse (or better!) than a blue one.
Also Yellow Evo VIII's look good.
|
Yup, really does depend on the car.
If I had a Saxo, Leon, or other Econobox, or tarted up version of the same, such as a current generation Beetle, the last thing I'd want to shout is "Whay hay. Look at me."
On the other hand, the bright yellow Diablo I say wending its way down a narrow Rome back street yesterday looked absolutely right, and absolutely stunning. Oh, it sounded quite good too, popping and crackling bouncing off the walls, this turning in to bark, then wail, as the driver nailed the throttle out in to the main road... Lovely!
I also saw my first Benelli TNT 1130 - as it happens painted in a yellow hinted gold - parked up near the Vatican, and want one even more than when I saw the first press photos. Blow the complete lack of practicality, and likelihood of a UK importer staying in business for more than five minutes, this machine looks absolutely perfect.
Was also impressed to find that by far the most popular bike in Rome (I discount the zillions of scoots) is .... The Honda Hornet 600. Loads and loads, and then some, of 'em. Glad to see the Italians appreciate the same style and perfect urban tool abilities that I do!
|
And of course, yellow should be the colour for Ferraris - prancing horse on a YELLOW background. Red is colour of many people's choice but that's only because it is the Italian racing colour. Always think Ferraris look best in yellow.
|
I wouldn't choose yellow if I was buying a new car but it can look quite good, especially on smaller cars.
Cheers, SS

My nephews and nieces also have a "Yellow Car" game.
Basically when travelling along if they see a yellow car they all have to shout "Yellow Car!"
The person judges to have shouted last, including parents, uncles, aunts, hitch-hikers, is then thumped by everyone else in the car.
My children are for more civilised. They play it with Minis.
|
Weirdly there's always more of them on the other side of road though.
Actually, no matter what you're looking for, you nearly always see more cars on the other side of the road. Unless you're overtaking all the traffic on your own side, those on t'other side are the ones going past you

I'll make an exception for the GT3, as its very special and the first 911 I ever drove was speed yellow. But that's it.
