American Drivers Fume..... - Bill Payer
If Americans stop buying SUV's it'll be a disaster for their car industry. I read that Ford makes $10,000 on every Explorer sold but next to nothing on ordinary sedans.

not.

If your heart was really bleeding it would be cheaper to get it 'repaired' in the UK than the USA!

High UK fuel costs or high USA medical costs - which whould you choose?

In Thailand last month the controlled pump price of diesel was allowed to rise from 15.5 baht a litre to 18.5 baht a litre (21.5p to 26.7p a litre). That's a 19% increase and will obviously increase the rate of inflation in Thailand. (Because the price rise took place overnight, questions were asked in the Thai parliament as to who was holding stocks of diesel over that particular night.) Over the last 3 years the price of petrol has risen from 7 baht a litre to 22 baht a litre (9.7p to 30.6p) and some Bangkok taxi drivers are not happy that they have not been allowed to increase meter fares by an equivalent amount. While I was there I had to advise a friend of a friend (a girl and her mother) whether to buy a huge new HiLux Vigo pick-up or a Soluna Vios automatic like ours. Since the Soluna Vios does well over 40mpg and the Vigo around 20mpg they took my advice and went for the Soluna Vios. Could be that Thailand's booming market for big pick ups bought on the drip will see a fall as a result of the fuel price hike.

I think they already have. The SUV is all part of the american dream like the fifties fin tailed enormities were. That's why toyota do so well over there; they sell the affordable dream. Ford is in trouble, ditto GM so there are going to be some interesting times ahead.
