Megane erratic speedo query

Megane erratic speedo query - allan doc
My speedo on my 97 megane 1.6 is erratic. It seems to bounce up and down and is not steady. Has anyone any idea of what is causing this or how to fix it. Many Thanks.

If it's still cable driven, it *could* be a worn speedo cable.
