Car bigger than drive! - tack
Have noticed recently how many people purchase cars which are longer than their drive. A lot of the houses around my way are terraced victorian with small frontages. Quite a number of these owners park the car on the drive with the back end taking up most of the pavement. I'd rather they took their window bay out and stuck the snout of the car into their living room!

Unless you have enough space in front of the house to park a car on your land, most councils will not allow you a pavement dip so you can drive your car across. Maybe these people had their pavement dips installed before they bought their stretch limos.

Judging by the way many people abuse their tyres by bumping up kerbs when they park, I don't think pavement dips mean much.
It is of course an offence to obstruct the pavement, and offenders run the risk of having militant pedestrians walk over their cars.

Actually earlier today i noticed a car parked on a wide pavement in stoke had been given a ticket. The road has double yellows all down it but he was parked totally off the road in front of his house (no drive)

Every day's a school day!

To be honest it was a wide pavement and you could easily get by so it wasn't really much of an obstruction.

I always believed that it depended on where the wheels are positioned. If they were all on private land, then you are legally parked. I know this was the situation with parking meter bays when they first appeared. An overhanging vehicle cannot be then be illegally parked, but it might still be causing an obstruction. This should have been the offence that the ticket was issued for, not illegal parking.

Unless marked otherwise.Ie two wheels on pavement-two on road..Council regs only specify two wheels not four. And dont specify amount of area covered?

Pavements are so useful and the whole raison d'etre for my Defender.

And this is the reason for some militant pedestrians knocking mirrors, scratching paint etc

Gareth it was t.i.c. I don't park on pavements, merely expressing the reason that many people buy 4x4s....

Anyway PU does it really matter if the landie gains the odd scratch here and there? surely it's just another war wound!

Indeed I don't worry about that ! I trust the dog to make a note of the offender and wreak its own terrible revenge.....I joke not, it once took a nip at someone that had given it a stone wrapped in its favourite sweet wrapper (some sort of joke) - the revenge took place three weeks later when the offender turned up for a further visit....

We shouldn't forget:
"The 'ighway hextends from 'edge to 'edge."
I once got a parking-ticket for parking a motorcycle on the pavement. I measured it - 19'6" wide! Wild? I was livid!
Even more so that the summons accused me of "Causing a vehicule to wait in the road."!
