Best time of year to buy at auction - robertminchin
I need to buy a nearly new car sometime before next march (06)
I know what I want - 1.6 or 2.0 diesel Cmax - not up for debate.
I keep cars for a long time typically 10 years and that is the last time I bought at auction so I'm a bit rusty.

I'd like to buy as cheaply as possible. So when is there a dip in the market?
Is it:
Summer - because everyone is thinking about their holiday
New reg time? - before because everyone is hanging out for newer reg to drop in price or after the new reg cos the market is full of trade ins
Cold wet days in January or November? because no one likes the time of year
Christmas time - because everyone is spending their money on Xmas.

or does this all average out to mean there is no real 'best time'

I'd value your thoughts and experience

Normally the lowest point is late October to early November. For the last 10 years, anyway. Can be quiet mid November to end December, but that's usually when traders start buying stock from the low point for the new year when prices rise and it gets competitive again. Buying late October to early November is a gamble and means financing stock. But it usually pays off.
