A petrolheads delight there, HJ. I am DiYing today in order to spend tomorrow in front of the box without any hurtful comments about my apparant inactivity.
Only annoyance is that the Moto Gp is not live, thay are running about an hour behind the race. A voluntary backroom agreement not to spill the beans by those with Eurosport is called for.
Well done BBC, Laguna Seca is potentially the highlight of the bike season and we only get higlights.
|
"The highlight of the bike season and we only get Highlights"
Doh!
|
But at least they're not running Moto GP against the British GP Live. That's looking good with Alonso on pole, Button 2nd pole, Rikonen 2nd quickest but taking a 10 place penalty so he'll have to fight his way through the pack again. So should be a race.

Renault Family tried to start a separate thread, which got lost when I tried to move it here. This was his posting
Not there this year, My first miss in three years. All those there - have a good time.
1/ Nice to see JB on the front row - how much fuel in there tho Jens?
2/ Wow never seen F1 cars set up so soft, all could be seen leaning in the bends, Even thought the Renault might cock a rear wheel!

HJ, I found it, and returned it from the archive, as that's where it ended up ;o)

The actual start time of the Moto GP is 10.30 GMT because of the time difference, so I am still disappointed BBC coverage is an hour late. Especially as it has made way for a programme whose timing isn't important.
As you say, Silverstone has the potential to be a cracking race. I have a sneaking feeling that this could be a win for...
I am not going to tempt fate.

Anyone hearing any whispers about Eurosport apearing on Freeview? It is the one move that would let me dump sky.

Somebody told me it already has, though I can't confirm. Unfortunately I have been told I can't get a signal as I cannot recieve channel 5.
|
It appears in the Freeview list. That is to say, it appeared about 2 weeks ago but it's locked from there. Looks like we'll have to stick with Sky for the time being.

Just done a channel rescan. Indeed Eurosport has appeared as a channel, however its blank. Top up TV perhaps?
|
That ten place penalty for a blown engine seems unnecessarily harsh to me. What with the penalties imposed on BAR earlier, it seems the final outcome of the championship could well be skewed considerably by 'outside' influences rather than on-track performance.
Another reason to shun F1.
Tom, like yourself I cannot get ch.5, but I recently picked up a cheap 2h freeview box, and (most times) can get a watchable ch5 on digital.

Eurosport is on Freeview, but you can only get it if you subscribe to TopUpTV and it's not on all day; it was the replacement for E4 when it became free to air along with E4 + 1.
A purely personal view is that TopUpTV is not worth the subscription...:-)
Incidentally, for those who watch Top Gear when it is repeated, this week it's at the rather unusual time of 7pm on Tuesday (July 12th).

Anyone see the interview with Max Moseley before qualifying? What an arrogant person he is. He should have not have been alowed to return to F1 after he retired last year.
|
Every bit of the grand prix I watched was boring, nothing much happening. So much so that I kept leaving the TV to go out into the garden.
However, I came back in for the final lap and the commentator thanking the drivers for serving up a brilliant spectacle?
What did I miss in excitement?
|
As someone else will write, you have to get your head into the tactics of it. So lets look forward to some real racing spectacle from Laguna Seca tonight.

Does anyone else find the F1 TV screen lap counter as a mite confusing and annoying as I do?
The first figure counts down rather than, I would have thought more preferable, upwards until both figures reach (in today's case) 60.

"..the tactics of it"
Still a poor substitute for the raw edge-of-seat excitement that comes as standard in most motorbike races, IMHO. I also feel a bit sorry for the F1 drivers, whose skill must be diluted by the pitting arrangements and the need to preserve engines, not to mention the draconian penalties for even minor rule infringements.
It would be nice to see some all-out racing for a change, with a simpler set of rules - say any sort of engine you like, but with a fixed quantity of fuel per race!
|
|
|
|
What did I miss in excitement?
Not a lot. As per usual most of the overtaking was done during the pitstops.
|
I was debating whether to watch the race or cut the grass.
Wish I'd cut the grass.
|
If there's one form of racing to watch, it is the bikes at Laguna Seca. Rossi has complained that most of the track is dangerous, and the rest is very dangerous. Fogerty used to hate the place and watching riders on the corkscrew can be terrifying. It used to scare me during Superbikes 2001 on the pc, I'd be frightened to even walk round it in real life.
Short run offs and concrete blocks on the perimeter. No place for the faint hearted.
